Cold Weather Payment

The programme, implemnted by the Department for Work and Pensions, provides financial assistance to certain households to cover their energy bills during cold weather in the winter period (November 1 - March 31). Cold weather is defined as a period when the average temperature has been recorded as, or is forecast to be, 0 degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days. The programme made 131,000 payments in the winter of 2016-2017, totalling had an expenditure of £ 3.3 million in expenditures.
