The Sitges Municipality, in collaboration with ECODES, implemented a technical assistance (TA) to assess energy poverty in the region, utilising both qualitative and quantitative methods, such as an energy poverty map.
The municipality planned to create energy communities in municipal buildings, strategically placing photovoltaic installations in areas impacted by energy poverty. This approach aimed to empower residents to participate in solar self consumption, thereby lowering their energy costs. Additionally, the initiative set out to developing a roadmap to address energy poverty and delivering training to municipal staff for effective implementation.
The project established energy poverty indicators in line with Covenant of Mayors' guidelines. Extensive data collection, analysis, and mapping identified energy poverty trends, leading to the development of a comprehensive roadmap with 15 strategic actions. Simultaneously, 2 targeted training sessions for municipal workers, home care service staff, and local NGOs aimed to impart crucial knowledge, laying a strong foundation to address energy poverty and enhance capacity among key stakeholders
