#25 Lunch Talk: Health, heatwaves and summer energy poverty: From indicators to local responses

Join us for our upcoming EPAH Lunch Talk #25, which will focus on Health, heatwaves and summer energy poverty: From indicators to local responses. 

The 25th EPAH Lunch Talk will explore the links between heatwaves, health-related vulnerability and summer energy poverty by combining EPAH evidence, research insights, and local implementation experience. The session will be moderated by João Pedro Gouveia, who will present recent EPAH findings, particularly those from the report Expanding Energy Poverty Measurement in the EU: Integrating New Climate, Health, and Mobility Indicators. The report expands the EPAH indicator framework by integrating underrepresented dimensions of energy poverty, including climate exposure and public health. It also introduces new indicators, such as summer excess mortality and heat-stress days.

• Perspectives on residential cooling demand, housing conditions, summer thermal comfort and the ability of households to keep their homes adequately cool during summer. The presentation will focus on the report, "Addressing Residential Cooling Demand and Summer Energy Poverty in the EU - Towards a Cooler Future".

Gordana Kolesaric, City of Maribor, Slovenia 

• Contribution from the Ready4Heat Project. Municipal perspective on local preparedness for extreme heat, including the City of Maribor's heat and climate analysis, heat maps, heat action planning and municipal heat protection measures demonstrating how municipalities can prepare for heatwaves and support vulnerable residents

The EPAH Lunch Talks are a bi-monthly series of webinars providing local governments, civil society organisations, and other key stakeholders across Europe with a platform to share practical experiences, lessons learned and strategies to address energy poverty.
