The project offered assistance to vulnerable households to tackle energy poverty and climate change, through a professional trained to advise families. The objective of this project was to promote green and social employment with a training course to generate a new professional profile, which did not exist in the market at the time, to advise households with multidisciplinary knowledge in:
- Energy-efficient consumption habits and energy micro-efficiency measures.
- Optimization of energy contracts.
- Low-cost dwelling renovation.
- Self-consumption.
This new professional profile is an employment opportunity for the unemployed and professionals in the construction sector or other disciplines and a new business niche for occupational employment centres, social insertion companies, etc. The program consisted of launching a training course with a theoretical part and a practical part where the students carried out the energy diagnosis in vulnerable homes and low cost renovations are implemented in these homes. Therefore, the project helped directly to face the situation of energy poverty of these households, apart of generating energy advisors. With a budget between 10000 and 100000 euros, the project developed the following activities:
- Course content development.
- Selection of students.
- Selection of families to carry out advising practices by students.
- Teaching of the theoretical part of the course.
- Practices: energy advice to homes by students.
- Implementation of contract optimizations and households renovations.
- Evaluation of the impact of energy advice and rehabilitation measures on electricity bills savings and household comfort.
