MEBAR II - Investment aid - Energy for low-income households (Aide à l'investissement – Energie pour les ménages à revenu modeste)

Policies and Measures

The state of Wallonia grants subsidies to low-income households (ceiling: social integration income +20%) for works to improve living conditions. This may be the replacement of frames or exterior doors, insulation work, the installation of a stove, the lining of a chimney, the installation of a boiler or a water heater, etc.

The list of works concerned is listed in the decree of the Walloon Government presented on this page.

If the applicant is a tenant, he must first obtain the agreement of his landlord, if the nature of the work requires it (mainly real estate work)

To obtain the subsidy, the applicant must contact the CPAS of his municipality. It is the social worker who will ensure that the documents necessary for the introduction of the file are collected and who will launch the procedure via the administration.

Amount of the premium
As of June 13, 2022, the maximum amount of the subsidy is €2,000. The subsidy may, in certain cases, be doubled subject to certain conditions relating to the nature of the work.

A period of 5 years (minimum) must be respected between each MEBAR subsidy application. If a subsidy has been granted under MEBAR, the application submitted after 5 years must concern a different investment (see order below for details and conditions of the different deadlines to be respected).
