Over 34 million people in the European Union are experiencing energy poverty in their homes. Energy Poverty Zero project' main objective is to support progress toward scale up of deep energy retrofit in vulnerable district to fight energy poverty by combining existing efforts on energy poor people support, one-stop-shops, deep-energy retrofit industrialization and district-based dynamics. The project consortium believes that it is key to develop an approach that will allow to connect efforts performed to diminish cost of deep energy retrofit in social housing with industrialised prefabricated solutions with the private housing market.
EP-0 aims at bridging and building on existing initiatives, including the ones of the EU transnational open-source movement “EnergieSprong” that aims at supporting price decrease of deep energy retrofit solutions, using prefab elements. Indeed, EP-0 will work to develop “industrialized retrofit potential” assessment tools for cities to better assess their potential scaling and replicability district per district, to deploy district energy retrofit compass with inhabitants, transcribing for citizen what different action would imply in terms of cost-benefit and comfort, and to assess relevance of collective buy-in scheme for citizens and housing organizations.
This consortium’s experience and expertise of what is happening in the field is key to address zero energy poverty and zero energy district in matter of energy transition, energy efficiency, social inclusion, housing and sustainable district lead approach.
Some concrete key performance indicators include:
Impact 1
- 1150 industrialized zero-energy retrofits
- 1100 B-level energy retrofits
Impact 2
- 2200 households lifted out of energy poverty
- 5000 peoples permanently lifted out of energy poverty
Impact 3: Annual savings of 15 GWh (final energy) generated by all the retrofit projects
Impact 4
- 4 GWh annual renewable energy production
- 10 millions euros invested in renewable energy production
Impact 5: 36000 tons of CO2 equivalent cumulatively avoided over 30 years for all the retrofit projects
Impact 6
- Saving of 6 400 days of work
- 270000 drillings avoided
Impact 7: €650000 saved in health costs each year
Impact 8: 15% reduction in the unit costs of retrofit work
Impact 9: 400 facilitators in capacity to use the District Energy Compass
Impact 10: Massive high-performance industrialized retrofits as a priority goal in the policy of 5 local authorities
