Getafe Municipality collaborated with technicians from the Getafe Municipal Housing Company (EMSV-Getafe), Ecooo Energía Ciudadana, and City Council services, including architectural heritage and social services. Their joint efforts resulted in the development of a comprehensive Energy Community within the Getafe City Council, designed to address energy poverty.
The project set out to reduce energy poverty throughout the process of creating a Local Energy Community (LEC) in Getafe city, while involving those in vulnerable situations. The LEC oversees the generation and consumption of energy produced by photovoltaic panels installed on the roof of the city council of Getafe for collective self-consumption.
The initiative involved identifying needs and resources, encompassing legal, normative, and regulatory aspects. The project underwent training sessions for technical personnel, identification of vulnerable families, designing the LEC and ultimately establishing its functionality. Getafe City Council introduced the Healthy Homes Office, offering energy poverty advisory services.
