Ishøj Kommune is an urban municipality of 23,000 inhabitants located 20 kilometers outside of Copenhagen . The average disposable income is lower than the national average. With 4.5% of its inhabitants being unemployed, the city has the highest unemployment rate in Denmark.
The objectives were:
- to provide primarily but not only ethnic minorities with affordable advice about possibilities of energy (and money) saving
- develop an intense and condense timeline to provide the target group with tips on energy saving before the colder and darker months took over.
More than 1.700 apartments, in the social housing area, were invited to the formative event. The event was also recorded to provide additional information and share on the social media. A social housing project supported by the municipality was involved and agreed to collaborate for hosting the events. Effectively engaging the beneficiaries was made possible by their involvement in social housing projects, thanks to their continuous presence and support. Moreover, it helped incorporate additional services to enhance the sense of safety and make the event more appealing, such as providing food and organising activities for children
