The fund, created in 2018, has allowed the Naturgy Foundation to benefit more than 2,000 energy poor households by improving the efficiency of housing and the quality of life of the people who need it most. The resources allocated so far to this social program to address energy poverty amount to 4.3 million euros, which have allowed improvements in rehabilitation, equipment and energy efficiency.
With a budget of over 1 million euros, this solidarity fund is one of the main social initiatives developed within the framework of Naturgy's Energy Vulnerability Plan, and is aligned with the recommendations of the National Strategy against Energy Poverty 2019-2024.
The interventions are always low-cost rehabilitations, on average € 2,000, and do not require any license or that families leave their home. The type of actions are distributed as follows: the repair or replacement of boilers and other heating, hot water and electrical systems represented 38%; the replacement of luminaires with LED technology accounted for 29% of the interventions; 20% corresponded to the replacement of carpentry and windows, and the insulation of ceilings and walls; the installation of efficient electrical appliances was 13% of the interventions.
To carry out this project, the Naturgy Foundation collaborates with almost twenty Third Sector entities, through which it has access to energy-poor customers and can carry out the energy audits necessary to define the actions to be carried out. The study “Express Re-habilitation in Vulnerable Homes. Low-cost solutions was edited by Naturgy Foundation and include 77 low-cost solutions to make homes more energy-efficient. Among the actions that it includes, the replacement of carpentry and glass, and the insulation of walls and ceilings, are the most efficient measures.
The fund wants to be a step further in the implementation of this low-cost solution proposed in the study. The solidarity fund for energy retrofit has partnerships with thirty social entities, some large such as Cáritas and the Red Cross, and other regional or local ones. The social entities draw up a list of homes to be retrofited among homes of families they take care, and this list is approved by a commission made up of representatives of the Naturgy Foundation and the social entity. Retrofits are with low-cost solutions such as those suggested in the Study “Express Rehabilitation for Vulnerable Homes. Low-cost solutions”.
The interventions are intended to be carried out by job placement companies. Naturgy Foundation monitors the execution of the works and the destination of the money transferred to the entities. Finally, in some cases, social entities have difficulties in finding companies to carry out the works, for those cases we offer them the network of maintenance companies of the Naturgy gas and light installations with which we have reached an agreement so that carry out these interventions at reasonable prices for the group of vulnerable consumers.
