Description
The COOLTORISE project, dedicated to raising awareness about summer energy poverty and reducing cooling needs [https://cooltorise.eu/], the first Horizon 2020 funded project focused exclusively on summer energy poverty, has just released its first Policy Brief. Unlike traditional research focused on cold climates, this document highlights the unique challenges of summer energy poverty, influenced by factors such as building conditions, cooling system availability, socio-economic factors, and climate change. With increasing frequency of extreme heat events and the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect exacerbating temperatures in cities, this brief offers crucial policy guidelines. It is organized into three sections: improving measurement accuracy, assessing impacts on wellbeing and urban areas, and evaluating health effects, each providing diagnostic insights and recommendations for diverse stakeholders.
