Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias is a small, agricultural, touristic community in Paphos with about 1,200 residents, which doubles in population during the summer. The elder population makes about 20% of the residents and often live in inadequate, energy-inefficient buildings, making them more vulnerable to extreme temperatures due to health conditions and limited knowledge on improving thermal comfort.
The strategic objectives were:
- to provide capacity building for the local government's staff.
- to structure an implement data collection
- to analyse the data and jointly identify best actions to implement.
The expert supported the local government's staff to develop their methodological tools to support the community. Specific capacity building was provided to carry out surveys and provide advice to specific target groups. Th training was integrated with the direct implementation of a data collection involving 100 households. The expert supported in the development of the semi-structured questionnaire and guided the implementation of the survey. Finally, a joint effort was performed to analyze the data, develop and integrated toolkit and use the information to identify the best actions to implement to support local residents.
