Green loan Brussels (Prêt vert bruxellois)

Policies and Measures

The measure is a response to the need for affordable financial support for improvement of housing. The Brussels Green Loan provides access to low interest loans for home improvements such as installation of photovoltaic panels, heat pumps, solar water heaters or insulation, ventilation or efficient heating. The works need to be eligible for Energy Premiums (Primes Énergie). The measure aims to make houses more energy efficient and green and provides cheap loans for investments that only pay off over a longer period of time and are therefore not prioritised, especially not by landlords.

The investments are direly needed as inefficient housing is rent-wise usually only affordable by low-income tenants who then carry the burden of higher energy bills and/or lower living standards. Furthermore, the measure is of rather simple nature and can - especially in combination with other measures such as Energy Premiums (Primes Énergie) - be very efficient and unbureaucratic. Main beneficiaries: owners/landlords and tenants.
